Training For Online Editors, Braunschweig, March 2010

The purpose of the training session at PTB - conducted by Dr. Julien K. Biere - was aimed at setting up a sustainable web management structure that will ensure the further development of the web portal even beyond the end of the PTB project.

  • Understanding how and why the site is constructed as it is;
  • Learning the data-fields and checkboxes needed (which are sometimes “hidden” or not easy to find inside the administration area);
  • Practicing the editing steps in order to develop a routine for frequent updating;
  • “Training on the job”, i.e. real editing work instead of abstract exercises;
  • Filling all the main pages with up-to-date content bringing the portal closer to the stage where it can be published;
  • Motivating participants by experiencing their growing online editing competence;
  • Providing an opportunity for expressing and exchanging ideas of how to further develop the portal.

User Administration

A very important chapter of the training session was the discussion how user groups and users should be set up: so-called backend users (editors) and frontend-users (COOMET members and privileged visitors)
