The COOMET web portal www.coomet.net  is a tool that serves the purposes of informational support, coordination and organization of cooperation among national metrological institutions in accordance with the COOMET Memorandum of Understanding and Rules of Procedure, popularization of metrology and organization's activities at the international level, storage, retrieval and exchange of information by the cooperation participants.

The COOMET web portal has been created based on TYPO3 - an open source content management system with a free license. It is a flexible system with a user-friendly interface, a large number of modules and functions.

The COOMET web portal consists of two access levels:

- public access level (TYPO3 frontend) - this is the "face" of the site, and it is open to all users interested in metrology and COOMET activities;

- limited access level (TYPO3 backend ) - this is an interface for site administrators and editors, which is only available for registered users. The access rights to this area are set according to the access rights for specific user groups. This section contains official information about the events and activities of the COOMET Committee, COOMET Presidential Council and COOMET structural bodies (CSB), as well as working information (document flow) related to preparing and holding events within those CSBs.

Page content elements on the COOMET web portal are edited in a decentralized way by responsible online editors according to the Guide to Editing which is kept by the COOMET Secretariat.

The COOMET Secretariat, which is a web portal chief editor, has full access to editing content of all COOMET web portal pages.

The appointed online editors have limited access to editing pages of COOMET structural bodies.

The COOMET Secretariat undertakes the organization of access and editing rights.

Information on the COOMET web portal pages is presented in the official languages of COOMET - Russian and English.

To assist online editors, the COOMET Secretariat has developed a document "Instruction booklet for work with the www.coomet.net portal in the TYPO3 backend", which reflects the main points that should be taken into account when working in the backend on the COOMET portal, as well as recommendations for presenting information on CSB pages in order to maintain a consistent structure of the portal and uniformity in presenting information.
