28-29.11.2022: 19th meeting of TC 1.5 «Length and Angle»





The 19th meeting of COOMET TC 1.5 "Length and Angle" was held on 28 to 29 November 2022 in a hybrid format (physically at the premises of BelGIM, Minsk, Belarus, and online in a Zoom videoconference mode). The meeting was conducted by the TC 1.5 Chair Konstantin Chekirda (VNIIM, Russia). Representatives of 8 COOMET member countries took part in the meeting: Armenia, Azrbaijan, Belarus, Germany, Kazakhstan, Russia, Turkey, Uzbekistan.
The following issues were discussed at the meeting:
- decisions of the COOMET Committee and COOMET Presidential Council concerning the activities of the TC;
- changes in the TC membership and the need to change the structure of TC 1.5;
- COOMET projects implementation and update of the TC 1.5 work program;
- implementation of the CIPM MRA, including the issues of comparisons organization and CMC review;
- participation of TC 1.5 in drawing up and implementing the COOMET Plan for the development of standard calibration procedures for various groups of measuring instruments;
- possibility of holding trainings under the auspices of TC 1.5;
- capabilities of the BIPM e-learning platform and creation of COOMET courses under the auspices of TC 1.5.
A Deputy Chair of TC 1.5 – Vladimir Makarevich (BelGIM, Belarus)- was appointed at the meeting, and it was agreed to appoint field coordinators responsible for CMC review.
Main adopted resolutions:
1. To update the list of TC 1.5 technical experts on CMC review and QMS peer review for COOMET NMIs/DIs.
2. To conduct a survey to define the needs of CEEMS in terms of comparisons in view of their measuring capabilities.
3. To update the list of participants of the comparisons included in the COOMET Work Program.
4. The following comparisons were considered appropriate:
- comparisons of interferometer units for measuring bands up to 20 m long;
- comparisons of thread measuring units;
- comparisons of stabilized He-Ne/I2 lasers at 633 nm;
- comparisons of interferometer units for measuring 200 mm to 1000 mm end gauges;
- calibration of 1000 mm line gauges.
5. To endorse the proposal of the NMI of China on the organization of online courses on topics "End gauge calibration", "Calibration of calipers, micrometers and dial indicators" in 2023.
The next TC 1.5 meeting is scheduled for September – October 2023. The final decision on the venue, date and format of the meeting will be made before 15 June 2023.
