06.10.2020: 25th online meeting of TC 1.6 "Mass and Related Quantities"
25th online meeting of COOMET Technical Committee 1.6 "Mass and Related Quantities" was held on 6 October 2020, in which more than 50 participants from 14 COOMET member countries took part; representatives of TC-M EURAMET also participated in the meeting.
The following main decisions were made at the meeting:
- the draft COOMET Roadmap for implementation of the decisions, related to the redefinition of the SI base units, was reviewed in terms of mass units;
- analysis of the progress of works of TC 1.6 on comparisons, lasting more than 5 years was conducted and actions to complete the comparisons were discussed;
- need for and appropriateness of the preparation of COOMET Recommendations on ensuring traceability of the results of measurements/measurement standards in COOMET (COOMET project 812/RU/20) was discussed;
- a draft guidance on high accuracy mass measurements was reviewed – the project will be finalized taking into account proposals from TC members and made available on the TC page;
- results of comparisons under COOMET projects 555/AZ-a/12 (COOMET.M.D-S1), 638/UA-a/14 (COOMET.M.H-S3) were agreed;
- new projects and need for development of a prospective Work Program of TC 1.6 were discussed;
- elections of the Chair of TC 1.6 and Chair of SC 1.6.2 "Force" were held. Based on the results it will be proposed to COOMET Committee to extend for 4 years the term of office of the current TC 1.6 Chair, Irina Kolozinskaya (Ukraine), and to approve Aleksandr Tsiporenko (Ukraine) as the Chair of SC 1.6.2 "Force".
A COOMET webinar "The new definition of the kilogram and its impact to the mass metrology" was held before the TC 1.6 meeting. The speakers of the webinar included Andrey Surzhykov (PTB), Nieves Medina Martin (CEM, Spain), Michael Stock (BIPM).
